How Dental Veneers Work

Ever wonder how all Superstars appear to have wonderfully even and bright white teeth? Dental veneers done by expert cosmetic dental practitioners are virtually mandatory in Hollywood for the ideal smile. Pop star Hillary Duff got her cosmetic dental practitioner to make over her smile by getting four veneers done to cover chipped front teeth which dramatically modified her grin. But she isn't the only one with stars like Brad Pitt, Jessica Simpson and Tom Cruise having done 1 or 2 different sorts of veneering work on their front teeth to boost their grin. If you are wondering whether it is possible to get the same bright 120-watt smile, then be assured you can. Here is a little info on dental veneers and how they can work for you.

What are dental veneers? Dental veneers are thin shells that are joined to the outer surface of the teeth. They are made from porcelain or composite material and joined to the surface of the tooth with a cement material. These veneers are made without delay on the surface of the tooth or measurements of the tooth surface are taken and veneers are fabricated at a laboratory. These lab veneers are then affixed to the surface of the tooth with special cements and bonding systems.

How will a routine dental veneer process proceed? Appointments. Usually, a cosmetic dental surgeon will appraise your teeth for their location and position. If any fillings are needed, he'll do them too before beginning on the veneer techniques. Most dentists will also suggest a total dental scaling or cleaning process to be done before any measurements or veneer preparation can be done. One sitting veneers are possible with composite materials while porcelain veneers will need 2 sittings.

Tooth preparation. The cosmetic dental surgeon will then guage the tooth surface for the veneer preparation. Customarily, minimal tooth preparation is required in the form of a 1-3mm decrease in the labial or facial surface of the tooth. There isn't any discomfort involved as the dentist does not reduce tooth surface to reach dentine. If the patient experiences pain, local anesthesia might be used.

Measurements or record. Measurements of the tooth surface are taken in the shape of impressions. If the dentist is fabricating the veneer on the tooth in one visit with a composite material, then there isn't any need for measurements. Nonetheless porcelain veneers are made in a lab and they need to be fabricated by a trained dental ceramist to match your remaining teeth brilliantly.

Attaching. Composite veneers are attached straight to the tooth surface with dental acid etching, bonding and building procedures. This may take about 30-45 minutes per tooth. A porcelain veneer is supplied by the dental lab and it is also cemented in the same way with etch, bond and curing procedures that may take about 30 minutes per tooth.

Caution. Dental veneers are not perfect. They're extraordinarily esthetic but they do need a large amount of care. As a consequence, ice chewing, nail chewing, and other unpleasant habits have to be avoided or the veneers do snap off. Veneers can't be repaired too as they should be made new at a lab.
