Moisturizer Tips for Different Skin Types

We all want healthy, glowing skin. As you may know, the key to skincare gold is the use of moisturizer. Simply put, a moisturizer is the most important tool in your skincare collection, and is extremely useful for eradicating everything from acne to aging. However, what you may not know is that moisturizer is a bit like shoes: one size surely does not fit all. So, here are some guidelines for choosing the moisturizer that is best for you.

First off, you should try to establish the type of skin that you have. Don't worry: this isn't an arcane process that requires an expert. Chances are you already have an idea of what type of skin you have. If you're prone to breakouts, you have oily skin. If your skin feels tight, you have dry skin. If it does a bit of both then you have combination skin. If you have some type of reaction no matter what you put on your skin, then you have sensitive skin.

Let's discuss oily skin. Your best bet is to use a gentle, oil-free moisturizer. If you're looking, a water-based moisturizer is usually the best way to go. Remember that oily skin can be particularly problematic, but if you work on your skincare regime the best you can then chances are that it will all work out well.

If you have particularly dry skin, then you should do the exact opposite: use a heavy, oil-based moisturizer. Dry skin is caused when your skin does not produce enough seburn, or oil. Moisturizer is created to keep your skin from drying out, so this is particularly easy.

If you have combination skin, you should take heart: this won't be especially complicated. Choose a water-based moisturizer and use it whenever your skin is dry. Wherever your skin is normal, you should still use moisturizer, just don't use it repeatedly.

Finally, if you have particularly sensitive skin, you should go for one that is made to be hypoallergenic as well as unscented. Oftentimes it is the fragrance that causes your skin to react, so avoiding that is a wonderful way to keep your skin looking healthy and feeling good.
