Everyone experiences stress to some degree and it can make a big difference when you find relief. Stress is a leading cause of many health problems, in addition to making you feel tense and worried. There are many effective ways to cope with stress, and we'll be looking at some of these in this article. While not every method works for everyone, be sure to apply the ones that are right for you.

Breathing slowly and deeply is a quick way to reduce stress. Breathing naturally gets shallower when we feel stressed and some people may even hold their breath. Learning to breathe in a deeper, more relaxed manner all the time is also beneficial. Taking yoga classes can teach you how to breathe more deeply or there are countless books and classes that focus on breathing. This also has the added benefit of improving your overall health by delivering more oxygen to your body.

The amount of sleep and its quality can have a big impact on your stress level. If you don't get enough rest, you have less energy to deal with the issues of daily life and it can be difficult to think clearly. Try to get to bed at least an hour earlier if you stay up late at night. Very often, that simply means turning off your TV or computer a little earlier, which will not do you any harm. Reduce stimulants like coffee and eating too much to help you sleep better. Doing gentle exercise may also help you wind down for the night. While everyone needs a different amount of sleep, make sure you're meeting your requirements.

During your break at work you should take a break from your cell phone too. We may not want time away from our devices, but we need that time to reduce our stress level.

Use the above stress relief tips as a starting point for taking back control of your life. There will always be circumstances that cause stress but they don't have to weigh us down if we can learn effective ways to deal with them.
